Lets say you could take one shot to tell a car story to the masses- say, a Superbowl kind of audience. A lot of people that know nothing about cars. What do you think everyone (or at least most people) should know that's car related?

I think everyone who owns a Renault Twingo should know that it's a bullshit copy of a 1980s Polish FSM prototype.
I'd post the whole story but I should really be doing my homework.

I assume by the lead image you had something like this in mind. Personally the story of the GT40 and how Henry beat Enzo would be pretty awesome.

I make a point of educating everyone I know on the history of how Lamborghini was founded.
I don't have a lot of friends...

Group B. All of it. try telling people about how fucknuts those vehicles were and they'll think you were lying. I had some brotruck driver at a bar try telling me that a dune jumping truck would be way faster than "any of those flimsy imports". A quick youtube video later "....that's fake, right? People actually drove those that fast? On those roads?" The more simplistic of minds tend to find it difficult to comprehend the levels of insanity reached during this era. The more intelligent seem almost afraid that we basically strapped people inside 600+ hp missiles and sent them careening through forests and on the sides of mountains with a twisty path barely big enough for a car at more normal speeds and then asked them to do it as fast as possible.

They should know that the Lada Samara/VAZ 2108 was partially developed by Porsche.. well, the engine was..
In all seriousness though, I think more people should know how ABS works and WHY ABS (along with seatbelts) is probably some of the most important inventions in the car industry.

Well, since I'm Jalopnik's white knight for smart, I think everyone should know the story of how it came to be. It was all about a man and his dream, a future with tiny city cars that don't emit a single particle of pollution...
The other auto story I'd definitely mention is the story of Preston Tucker. Inspirational is definitely an understatement.

The story of the various American failures in F1/Sportscar racing, and how they paralleled the future of problems with the American motor industry.

First off, I agree with pretty much everyone here. All fantastic stories (My favorite probably going to the GT-40), but, you guys probably already know that my jam is Group A racing, and, more specifically, the absolute dominance of the Group by the Nissan Skyline.

Jalopnik Comments.
Seriously, I scoured the internet, but there's a guy around here (TokyoBayAquaLine) who actually does some Wangan driving himself and knows the stories pretty well, definitely knows his stuff better than 90% of the rumor on the internet.
